FINALS!

Finals are here, nervous anyone?
What's so special about finals? It's like any other test, but teachers try to make it worth like 50% of your grade. That's ridiculous. Come on staff! We're tired! Why give us so much to do at the end of the year? Our brains are empty! All we have in our heads is SUMMER!
Best ideas for finals is to just have a final project. That's much more relaxing.
Finals don't always have to be a huge test. Plus, the test doesn't even cover the whole semester so why is it called a final? It makes no sense. Then, teachers, you have to grade all of them before grades are due. That's stressing yourself out as well. So, staff, make it easy on your students and yourselves and come up with a creative final!

Firebaugh VS Concordia

As our boys baseball team takes on Concordia for their second round of CIF play-offs they succeeded on winning the game with a score of 23-1.Our senior Armando Murillo went 5 for 6 with 5 Runs Batted in. He is now at a batting average of .471, making him one of our top hitters. Also our junior, Anthony Rios does damage after having five Runs batted in as well and with a batting average of .667. Our junior Anthony Rios takes the mound he's ready to start the game to do damage. By the sixth inning our starting pitcher already had 9 strikeouts and he retired the mound to our other junior pitcher Anthony Arreola. Anthony finished the game with four strikeouts. And that's how our boys advanced to their next round as they take on Milken on their third round. Gooooooooo Falcons!!

Solar Cup Weekend

On the Weekend of May 18-20th the Solar Cup Club went to Lake Skinner for a boat competitions. This is not the first year that FHS participated in the Solar Cup but we are all sure that it won't be the last! Dr. Busick was the advisor for the club and also when on this camping trip with about 50 students and administrators.
We got a chance to get an interview with David Garibay about the exciting weekend.

What is solar cup about?
" Solar cup is a club that participates in a huge event at Lake Skinner
where many high schools attend from different regions and come to
compete for races, such as endurance, sprints and looks but the boat
has to be powered by the sun."

How was the competition?
" This year was my first and our club spent many hours fixing the boat
but we did not receive an award unfortunately. We were a little heart
broken at the time but the competition was fierce. Every boat was
unique and some were super boats. We were just under powered compare
to all the other boats."

How did you spend the night?
"It was unforgettable. The stars rose up at night and so did the solar
cup members. The best night was the last night because we all knew
that it was the last time we were going to share a moment together, so
we sang all night. The bond between us made me not want to come back
to Lynwood."

What activities did you do?
"Besides the competition, we had lots of fun;we had an epic water-gun
fight that lasted about two hours, we watched two movies at night
under the stars, played soccer until we were tired, we ate smorz as a
team, and probably the best part was the hiking. There was about only
eight seniors who went and the rest were underclassmen but as soon as
we socialized its as if we were in the same grade. We had barely met
but it was as if we had known eachother for years.Out there in the
wild, the main goal was having fun and thats exactly what we did. I
met a lot of people and made new amazing friends. I will always
remember the weekend at Lake Skinner. I recommend joining the team
because it was such a wonderful experience."

Music Festival Hits Firebaugh

Marco Antonio Firebaugh's first ever music festival is happening May 31, 2012 at 4:15 after school in Falcon Square. The Falcon Flame has this exclusive interview with the organizer and director of the show Alexis Perez.

What is this music festival, and what is it called?
"Its actually just called the music festival because its just that, a music festival. Basically what we want is to show the musical talents of everyone here at Firebaugh it is also a chance to explore peoples interest."

What kind of music will there be?
"Well we've settled for most likely on Rock and Indie maybe pop. The initial idea was to present all types of music and hopefully we still can but so far its like a little Rock Show."

When will it take place?
"It will take place May 31, 2012 at around 4:15 in Falcon Square and the best part is the show will be free."

 Why Falcon Square?
"We felt the Lecture Hall was to bland. Since summer is coming up we decided to do an outside show to kind of change things up. At first we wanted the parking structure but there were some complications with plugging things in and seating, so we landed on Falcon Square. People can sit down on the grass and there are some benches there too. Everyone will be able to enjoy the show."

Alexis is also asking for more performers that would want to join the show he will be in Ms. Ngyuen's class every Tuesday and Thursday after school. All types of music are welcome from  Rap to even Opera!

Falcons Take Flight

Nearly every adult you come in contact with will tell you, "Oh, don't worry, your senior year will be fun and simple. It'll be a laid back year." I hate to say that our fellow falcons can prove them wrong. Our school keeps us busy from start to finish, and the college process doesn't make high school life any easier. Most of us Falcons have not had a "break" since the end of last summer. However, the college process was an exciting experience no falcon can ever forget. We decided to ask three ardent students how they've dealt with the stress and what they hope is in store for them.

Which college are you going to attend? What made you decide on attending?
Elizabeth Murillo: I'm going to attend Wellesley College next year in Wellesley, Massachusetts. What called me to apply was it's great curriculum and close friendship between many of the girls there, since it's an all-girls school.
Juan Gonzalez: I'm going to attend UC Irvine. Irvine has always been my dream school ever since I was in middle school, so selecting Irvine was a no-brainer.
Andrew Segura: I will be attending the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) this fall. One of the major factors that affected my decision on attending UCLA was the level of academic rigor that UCLA is know for as well as the prestige that goes along with it. There are also many research opportunities available at UCLA which are vital when you are majoring in any science or engineering.

How do you imagine your life in college?
Elizabeth: I think I'm going to be one of those girls that stays in the dorms and doesn't do much besides work hard. I really get a kick out of intellectually pursuing my goals in the academic area, but I also want to make lots of new friends.
Juan: I imagine college life fun and exciting, yet filled with a lot of work. However, the experience will be unforgettable.
Andrew: I imagine college life as the best and worst four years of my life. The rigor of college classes are sure to be strenuous. Apart from this, college provides a new found feel of freedom which is sure to make my college experience that much more exciting.

What was the most difficult part of the college process?
Elizabeth: I think the most difficult part was waiting for the colleges to answer back. Everything else is pretty difficult, but once you've got it done, it's like "Was I good enough? Will I get in?" and it would be around a 4-5 month wait, so that anxiety just gets to you and you wonder if you didn't get into any college, what would you do after that, so it's pretty nerve-wracking.
Juan: The most difficult part of the college process would have been writing the personal statements. It takes a lot of time revising them over and over and over again.
Andrew: The most difficult part of the college process hands down is the application itself. The college application comes with many parts, including a couple of essays to convince the school why it is that you are the ideal student for their institution and why they should choose you over thousands of other applicants.

How do you feel about dorming with people you haven’t met before?
Elizabeth: I've actually already met my roommate. If I hadn't met her before I would probably feel really anxious and probably feel like I wouldn't get along with her maybe.
Juan: I'm personally excited to dorm with people I never met, but a part of me is scared because my roommate might be a serial killer. No, but serious, we don't know the person so it's exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time.
Andrew: I am actually quite excited about dorming with someone I have never met before. It will be an excellent experience to be exposed to new people and be able to learn about their culture and customs. Being a resident of Lynwood for most of my life, we do not see much diversity in our city. Dorming with an individual you have not met yet can help expose you to the world. You never know, that random person might just end up being one of your greatest friends.

Do you worry about living away from your family and friends?
Elizabeth: Not really, I think you have to learn to be on your own. There are times when I get a bit anxious about it, but overall I'm very excited about moving to Massachusetts for the next four years.
Juan: I don't worry about leaving my family and friends since it's something that happens eventually in life. However, I will miss them very much and I know in the long run we'll see each other again.
Andrew: Since UCLA is not that far away from home, I can easily come back to visit my family whenever I am homesick.

What kinds of activities do you plan on being involved in?
Elizabeth: I'm planning to join the fencing team, and I'm also planning to do archery. I really want to get into sports because I know in high school I wasn't really the sporty kind of girl, but I really do want to get into lots of activities.
Juan: I plan getting involved on whatever I can. I'm going to make sure I enjoy my life to the fullest and do everything I can with it.

What are you most excited for about college?
Elizabeth: Just experiencing new things and growing as a person.
Juan: Well, Irvine is known for the Asian population and I'm not gonna lie, I'm excited to have an Asian girlfriend hopefully. Exploring their culture also seems fun.
Andrew: One of the things I am most excited about in college is that I can finally study what interests me.

What will you miss the most about high school?
Elizabeth: I think I'll miss the kind of relaxing atmosphere. In high school there's not so much at stake I suppose.
Juan: What I'll miss most from high school are my friends that I met over my four years here. They've truly impacted my life and I'll never forget each and every moment we've spent together watching each other grow as a person and as an individual.
Andrew: I am surely going to miss all of the incredible individuals I have met at Firebaugh High School. I met my best friend Jose Sandoval here. I was graced with the honor to have been friends with the great Maritsa Negrete! I also met some of the greatest and most dedicated teachers I have had to date! They include but are not limited to: Mr. Nguyen, Mr. Ude, Ms. Thomas Ms. Rojas, Ms. Rascon, Ms. Parkhill, and many others. You have all done an amazing job, and I truly appreciate all you have all done for me throughout my high school years.

What are you hoping to get out of this experience? (What are your goals for the future?)
Juan: In the long run, I'm just hoping I make something of myself and prove to all those who never believed in me that anything's possible with determination. I want to let everyone know that you can achieve anything if you set your mind and goals. Just like I will some day become a neurologist and live a rich and well-rounded life.
Andrew: My goals for the future are to finish my studies and find a well paying job. I would then use that money to open a research laboratory with Maritsa Negrete in which we would use our knowledge of Astrobiology, Astrophysics, and Astrochemistry to attempt to discover intelligent life outside of the planet earth.

FHS Goes For A Swim

On the weekend of the seniors memorable prom, the art classrooms were flooded by water, but if it wasn't rain, what was it?! We The Falcon Flame have an exclusive interview with a person affected by the water, with details about what admin is doing and how he has to cope during school hours.

How did the flood affect your teachings?

"It affected my class a lot because we had to move to the lecture hall,
then half the room did not have electricity, but luckily we have
assignments that are on going so hopefully they used their time
productively."

How would you categorize the flood?

"I would categorize it as not a prank but an act of vandalism where
they just turned on the water for no reason because i do not think
they were imagining all this damage."

Do you think the flood could have been prevented?

(chuckles) "All I am going to say is that i wish are video cameras
would work because that seems to be a big deterrent as to someone is
always watching you. If they are there might as well take advantage of
them. Well i dont think it could of been prevented, if some one wants
to get it they will find a way."

What did the flood damage?

"A bunch of art work by students and a bunch of boxes. I am trying my
best to dry their work and save as much as i can. For the most part,
our wireless internet got wet and seemed to have caused a shortage so
that does not work. Other than that, it was just a bunch of stuff on
the floor."

What do you think the administration should do to prevent an event
like this again?

"Good question. I would say use their resources to try to find out and
investigate anything they can. Only they can say they tried their best
to find out. It is what it is."

There has been break-ins before, why didnt they prevent this one?

"Thats a good question as individuals, when do we intervene. I totally
respect admin and you have to assume good will because they have a
difficult job too so its not like they can drop everything. They have
to worry about seniors activities, detention, testing, next year and
all that other stuff. You have to trust people around you to have a
good enviornment. We have to assume that they are going to take care
of whatever they got to take care of."

2012 Prom Reviews

Prom, an amazing night for the seniors of 2012. Let's see what our senior class thought about this spectacular night.

Jose Mota: The music was horrible half the music was hard to dance too, but what I loved about prom was the after party.

Jose Ramirez: My plans for prom did not come out how I expected it to be. The music wasn't good and RHE venue wasn't all that great.

Javier Nunez: Music at prom wasn't good, the food was good I ate a lot, what I could of changed about prom was getting a Banda or a grupo. I had a chill night with my date though. At the end of the night it was a good night.

Javier Navarro: Prom was fun the food was bomb and it wasn't what I expected it was even better.

Rebeca Campos, Yvette Salas, Ariadne Mata: Prom was awesome it was much more from what I expected prom would be like, the food was delicious and prom queen and king was no surprise. Music was amazing they played all type of music. Prom could of been longer though. Prom was stressing getting ready we had fun with our dates as well. Prom was amazing !

Jose Gutierrez: Prom was tight, pretty legit, I expected more from prom the food was pretty good. Prom queen and king was no surprise. My plans for prom weren't what I expected but I can't complain because I had lots of fun.

David Saldivar: Prom was what I expected it was a great time with all my friends I has a wonderful time with my date as well. Preparing for prom was stressing it was a tight schedule what I liked most about prom is getting to spend one last dance with the people I grew up with in high school.

Mr.Hua: my expectation for prom were great it was a success to see all the seniors having fun everyone showed up.I thought they did a very good job with prom what I would of liked to see is a disco ball. Other then that it was a great night for the seniors of 2012.

Mr.Mazon: Food was passible, the venue was marvelous and spectacular it had great choice's for the students to experience and have fun. Prom suggestions are to have prom on a Saturday night so students could have more time getting ready and wouldn't have to ditch school. Mr.Martinez did a fantastic job with all the details.

Words from an IB student

Maritsa Negrete being forced to pose academically.
Attention all underclassmen! The following post was written with you in mind.

After months of preparing for the challenging International Baccalaureate exams, IB students are now being filled with relief as their near endless days of studying are coming to an end. Each student who spent their time wisely in and out of class to ready themselves for these tests had their own unique experience, one of those students being Maritsa. As a full diploma candidate, she has had her fair share of grueling work.

Why did you join the IB Programme?
"Going into high school and thinking about college, I knew that I had to take the most rigorous courses available to me. I've always liked challenges and I felt that I needed to challenge myself, and the IB program was a perfect way to do that."

What drove you into doing the full diploma for IB?
"Full diploma is definitely a lot more different than doing just the certificates because I have to take tests in six IB subjects as well as do the Extended Essay, and, I mean, I don't think I would have felt satisfied with myself if I did not go for the full diploma program."

How do you balance the time between all the work, friends, and family?
"I've always really valued school work and have always looked at college as my goal, so I always feel like I have to put my best into everything, and I always make sure that no matter what I do, if I go out with my friends, I make sure I get my work done, but I do find time for friends."

After actually experiencing the two years of the IB Programme, do you think it’s worth it?
"I think it's definitely worth it. Even though MIT doesn't accept credit from most of the test I'm taking, I definitely felt that the IB program was a great way to challenge myself. There was a lot of work, especially for full diploma; so many stressful nights and so many hours of sleep that I missed on, but ultimately the whole challenge, the self-discipline that was required in order to do the full diploma that goes with all these tests, was really rewarding for the fact that I'm pushing myself to do this."

Do you recommend the underclassmen to join it as well? What is some advice that you would give to future IB students?
"Definitely. If you think you have what it takes, like if you have always been a really strong student and you have a lot of self-discipline, definitely try it. It's hard, especially with Senioritis, but it's very rewarding. If you actually get the full diploma, then high-five to you; that would be awesome. Advice? Start on your stuff early. Yeah, you will slack off - I slack off. It's hard, especially your senior year, so the more you get done your junior year, the better. Make sure you always know your deadlines because a lot of stuff piles up and it gets crazy."

Mr.Lima's First Born Child

Swag Master Mr. Lima has a new addition to his family, Eva Beverly Lima born April 15, 2012 is the first child of Class of 12's favorite teacher. The Falcon Flame had the pleasure to talk to Mr. Lima in his first ever interview as a father.

Being a first time father, how has this whole experience been for you?
"Her birth was the best day of my life. This whole event has been unbelievable. Her birth was the first time that I could actually believe there was a life in my wife's belly. I knew there was a life there, but I didn't believe it until she was born."

How has being a teacher prepared you for fatherhood?
"I think she was around three or four days old when I read her her first story. I think its important to read to a child because that way they can grow with an education. It is really important as a parent to understand the importance of play because, play is learning and learning is play"

Has your job prepared you for fatherhood?
"Definitely, when you treat a kid with respect they will in turn respect you. Kids have a certain sensitivity to fairness so its good to treat them fairly. I have learned that it is important to teach kids independence because when a student finishes a project all on their own it's a sense of pride and accomplishment, it is something that I will teach my daughter because I think it will help her be more self sufficient."

Will your child have as much "swag" as you have come to achieve?
"She is half of me so she'll immediately have half my swag, and hopefully for Eva my wife's genes will not counteract my swag, and I say my wife's genes, j-e-a-n-s. I'm not too worried though; you can teach swag to a certain extent. Not Swag Master status, but to a certain extent. Besides, kids learn through observation, so she will learn by watching me.

Felicitas Finally Gets Her Prom Date!

Treveion Whitaker: "My invite to prom will be forever a keepsake in my drawer and my memories.
Never will I ever forget our wonderful adventures through success and turmoil.
I think it's the best prom invite ever!"

With prom rapidly approaching, prom dates and couples are rushing to ask their partners to have a wonderful night together on May 11th. Just this week, Felicitas Nunez finally got around to asking her date, Treveion Whitaker, to prom. “I honestly didn’t know what to do. I know Tre loves the attention so I wanted to do something big,” Felicitas tells herself in an interview. “I had it all planned out: I was going to leave this silly, badly photoshopped card on his desk, but then I remembered he didn’t have a first period.”
Felicitas ended up just giving the card to Treveion, and she tells us that Treveion did laugh about it a bit. “I wasn’t sure if he was going to like it. I knew he would think that it’s sort of lame and I was a little worried he would obnoxiously say something rude about it. Treveion can be very unpredictable sometimes.”
We asked Treveion of what he was thinking when he first got this card handed to him. “At first I was like, ‘Oh, my goodness. This idiot put something dumb in here like a drawing of a naked cat with boobies.’” Felicitas would never do such a thing like that! How dare Treveion embarrass her image like this? He then tells us what he felt as soon as he opened the card -
“When I opened it and saw the horribly photoshopped declaration of a prom invitation, I almost cried.” Treveion Whitaker told us that he felt a little emotional about this because Felicitas and him go “way back like since 1962.” He claims that their past lives must have been Lewis and Clark and that in this life, they are still the close friends they were back then. “I’ve discovered so much with this woman and I feel like we’ve ‘grown up’ together.”
Felicitas was very glad that Treveion enjoyed her proposal for prom. “I’m so happy that he actually liked it and played along with it. Now I’m actually a little more excited about going to prom.” And with that being said, we can all hope that Felicitas and Treveion have a wonderful prom night together. Then again, with their PB&J-like relationship, we can be assured it will be a night with plenty of laughs.

So who will you guys be taking to prom? How did you ask them out? Let us know your story in the comment section. (:

The Seniors "Fun" Week

Last week the seniors had a busy week full of fun activities the administration had prepared for them. We all came together as a class to enjoy this time before we graduate and take our next step in our life. Activities like Chubby Bunny, a college fair, sport activities, college shirt day and the mentoring of freshman.

An interview with Juan Guerrero tells us more on his experience:

Do you think your words to your freshman seem to have impacted her in any way?
"I believe that my words did impact my freshman because they had an understanding for what I said and they seemed to take my words into consideration."

What was the part that you didn't like from that week?
"I thought it was kind of time wasting because we were not productive in anyway and we were pretty much trapped in a gym."

What was you favorite part of that week?
"I guess when we played Chubby Bunny was pretty funny,
But I guess when were allowed to play our sports it was fun as well."

How did the mentoring go and how do you feel?
"I feel the mentoring went well for the time I had to talk to my freshman. Because my words did seem to have an impact on their views on high school."

Prom Proposal Ideas Anyone?

Hello gentlemen, are you dateless for prom? Do you have somebody in mind but don't know exactly how to ask them? Is the stress of coming up with  a spontaneous way driving you insane? Well we here at the Falcon Flame are ready to help you boys. Here are just a few ways that you can ask your future date to prom.

1) Split the phrase 'Will you go to prom with me' (or any variation of that phrase) into 7 pieces. Write the parts on7 different pieces of paper or any thing you would like to write it on. Then give a piece to each of her 6 teachers and ask them if they can give it to her during class. Make sure to tell them not to tell her who its from. Then at the end of the day meet her outside her class with the final piece of the phrase.

2) Now for this one you'll need a small plastic pig, 4-5 balloons full of helium, and a box. Next tie the balloons to the pig (make sure they make the pig float otherwise this won't work). Then put the balloons and pig into  the box and close it. Finally write on the box 'the only way you'de go to prom with me is if pigs fly' (or some variation of that phrase), then simply open the box and let the pig fly out.

3) Get a white board and write a paragraph, any paragraph so long as is has the words 'will you go to prom with me' split up through the paragraph. Write the paragraph with regular white board markers but write those specific words with permanent markers. Then ask her if she could erase it for you and you'll see her smile at the phrase 'will you go to prom with me'.

4) if you're still not sure what to do get some flowers and ask her the old fashioned way (:

Royal Court Nominees Are In!

Prom is just around the corner and students are counting down the days for the milestone evening! But what everyone is asking is, "Who got nominated!?" For days FHS students have been promoting themselves and others everywhere, on social networks, banners and even personally asking to vote for them to be able to gain a spot in Royal Court.

Only the Falcon Flame has that answer and exclusive interviews with two popular nominees.

Adan Olivas
How do you feel being a nominee for Prom?
"Excited, never thought I would be a nominees because I'm not even that popular around school like everyone else."

When you received the nominee paper, what was going through your head?
"Miriam who was running along with me were so excited, we couldn't even think of what to say."

Are you personally ready for Prom?
"No, I don't even have my tuxedo ready, I still have to order it."

How do you feel about your competition? like your chances of winning?
"I don't even know who they are," (haha) "I have a whole bunch of friends that are willing to promote me through banners and pins."

If you win, whats your plan, what are you going to do?
"I'm going to make a speech commemorating to all the people that helped me, congratulate them for helping me get this far through school and in life and through all my problems."

Connie Castaneda
How do you feel getting nominated by your peers?
"I feel really happy, that everyone actually voted for me, they actually put my name, put the button and put my name on there out of all these girls that are way prettier than me."

Did you thank people for nominating you?
"Yeah, like some people, when they found out that I got nominated they came up to me and said oh I nominated you, and I thanked them."

Are you ready for Prom?
Yeah, I have everything, I already have my dress, my date, my heels.

How do you feel about your competitions to win?
"Thats hard, because there area lot of other girls that problalbly  have more people, know more people that know them than know me. That must be harder."

Did you ever think you would run for prom queen? What made you want to get nominated?
"I was planning, if I wasn't nominated, I was planning to run for it. I just wanted to see if people would vote for me, like i wanted to see if friends or if i ever had a chance so I won't have that feeling of oh I should have ran to see what would have happened."

Variety Show Introduces a Multitude of Amazing Acts and Talented Performers

Credit to Mrs. Carcamo (Ms. Bu/Bu Laoshi)
Check out our last post written before the show.

These two days were filled with a blast of entertainment, enjoyment, and success as the Variety Show was finally held on April 26 and 27 after 4 months of preparation from the Actors Club, Choir, Drill team, MESA band, and The Heavy Feathers.
Students attended on either one of the two days to see these different acts come together in a show that brought both laughter and tears. The participation of the audience was a great addition to the play, and knowing that everyone contributed like that made it all even greater.

We caught up with a couple of students and a teacher to see what their thoughts were after the play.

*What did you think about the show?
Jessica Mercado: Awesome! I really liked it. Everyone had talent. They had me dancing and singing along.
Laura Doniz: I enjoyed it. It was unforgettable and purely hilarious. I think they really worked hard to do this and it turned out well. It involved the audience a lot too.
Elizabeth Murillo:  I really liked it. It looked like everybody was having lots of fun and, you know, everybody in the audience was interactive. I thought everybody put a lot of effort into it and it really showed because everybody had a lot of fun.
Anahiz Diaz-Ibarra: I thought it was really interesting. I didn't know Firebaugh had so much talent.
Alexis Lorenzo-Vidal: Yeah, it really caught me off guard and I didn't expect that much but it was pretty great.
Mr. Martinez: I saw a lot of great acting, a lot of great performances, a lot of good singing; I'm very impressed by everyone who performed, quite impressed.

*What was your favorite part?
Jessica: The whole thing was great, but if I had to choose it would be between Kelvin's acting and the bands.
Laura: I liked the part where Kelvin is talking about "queso" because he can't speak Spanish & when the three Mr. Huas came out.
Elizabeth: My favorite part would have to be the musical numbers. They were really funny and really good. Everybody has a lot of talent and it was really nice to see that part of Firebaugh; everybody's just great.
Alexis: It wasn't really part of the play, but it would have to be when Gustavo asked his girlfriend to prom.
Anahiz: I liked the fighting scenes with Harry Potter [Gerald].
Mr. Martinez: There was this one actress who came out playing a teacher and she had some very good words of wisdom; very good acting going on there. {Felicitas Nunez played Mrs. Damrel and was the one holding these interviews}

*Would you have recommended this play to others?
Jessica: Heck yeah! Of course!
Laura: Yes! If the whole school could see it I think they would have fallen in love with it.
Elizabeth: Yeah, definitely, especially if they're students of Firebaugh because you can see other peers doing what they do best. It's really cool because it really shows a good side of Firebaugh and I would recommend it to anybody just to see what our students have to offer.
Anahiz: Yes, definitely.
Alexis: Yeah, why not? It was great.. Yeah!
Mr. Martinez: Absolutely, absolutely. I'm hoping maybe the whole cast can come together just for me to put on an encore.

*Did you happen to notice that the art teacher represented the love of Mrs. Damrel and the spirit that she brought to the school?
Elizabeth: Yeah I definitely saw that. You know we all miss Mrs. Damrel very much and this play really embodied what our feelings were for her.
Anahiz: I never had her as a teacher, but I wish I did. Knowing that, I think it's really thoughtful and meaningful and adds a lot more to the play.
Alexis: I had Mrs. Damrel and she was a good person and it really meant a lot.
Mr. Martinez: Oh, absolutely. You know she's up there with a smile from ear to ear. She would have loved this, definitely.

That's just about it. Thanks for reading, and remember: It's never a "goodbye", it's always a "see you later"!

One Small Step For MESA One Giant Leap For FHS!

Left to Right: Rick Rodriguez, Maritsa Negrete and Brian Rodriguez

On April 14, 2012 the MESA Club visited Chapman University for the annual competitions of Math and Science. These bright minds took the win by receiving 1st place on the Team Math Quest. Last year they were fortunate to take 2nd place but this year they studied and put some extra effort to make it all the way to the top. Even though it was only 30 questions, those questions tested every skill of mathematics they have learned. For example, subjects like Pre-Calculus, Math Analysis and Trigonometry.
By working together they succeeded in winning a very diverse competition for FHS. An interview with Brian Rodriguez, revealed advice and insight on the rigorous competitions, "Very difficult, if you don't take your time you just overlook, make little mistakes, it's more time management." Next year is a new year for the MESA club and FHS will be expecting nothing but the best from their club members. Students this year are showing more Pride and Ownership than ever in academics. This winning is one of many ways students are putting Firebaugh High on the map!

Stretched limos, flowing gowns, and sleek suits.

That’s right, Firebaugh prom night is just around the corner and with that said prom nominations have been cast and has everyone on their toes waiting for the announcement of who our prom royalty for 2012 will be. Many ladies and gentlemen long for the queen and king title, advertising themselves on facebook so that their classmates nominate them. This year however, Firebaugh seniors set in motion a very special project, the “Charlene for queen” project. Most of us know Charlene and many agreed that if anyone deserved to win a crown it was her. Donations to buy her prom ticket were being taken as well; unfortunately Charlene was not interested in attending prom or being queen. Although the project did not reach its goal, the thought and effort is one that Charlene is sure to appreciate. This means for all you ladies who wanted to be queen you still have a chance to represent Firebaugh!
The crowning of a king and queen is the highlight of prom, and to win represents an enormous honor. To be a queen or king is more than just rocking a crown; it’s a title that means out of the entire senior class you represent Firebaugh best, whether it’s because of charisma, athleticism, or academic achievement. The winner leaves with the knowledge that his/her classmates appreciate what he/she has done in Firebaugh. After nominations are announced the race for Firebaugh royalty will begin. Surely everyone is excited to see how our nominees fight for their title and how far they are willing to fight for the honor. Good luck to all nominees and for the rest, don’t forget to vote and support your favorite royalty pair!

Boys Volleyball Team Winning Streak!

Our Boys Volleyball team has thundered their way into a 13-0 winning streak. The season so far has demonstrated the  teams camaraderie on the court. The Falcon Flame had a chance to sit down with two of the team members (Giovanni and Ivan) for an exclusive interview. When asked about their winning streak first time Captain Giovanni had this to say, "I'm really proud of how far our team has made it. I feel as if now we are not a team anymore, but we are more like brothers." The teams brotherly bond has certainly proven to be a recipe for success during the past few games, as this is the first time that the Boys Volleyball has had an undefeated streak. However there is much more to victory than the bond that these boys share, as we all know practice makes perfect, and these boys have certainly learned this phrase well. A great practice schedule that is rigorous and effective has built these boys into the volleyball machines we see play every home game.

Firebaugh High School is proud of our Boys Volleyball team; even though its very difficult for them to keep up with school work, they make the effort to achieve academically and athletically. This extraordinary students  have the gift to play and always give there best. The Boys Volleyball team this year are undefeated and stronger than ever we are all proud of them.We know that Our Boys this year are truly inspiring under classmates to participate in sports. With the support of FHS our Boys Volleyball team is going to keep achieving higher goals as they have done till this day.
