Our 2012 Royal Court Winners, Prom is fresh in our minds and we can't help but remember the milestone event. Most importantly we can't forget who our winners were. After the weeks of campaigning the competition is finally over and now we get a closer look at the royalty in FHS. 

Here is an exclusive interview of our winners!

Edwin Gonzalez & Jennifer Torres

How did you feel after winning prom King and Queen? What were your thoughts?

Edwin: (interrupts his question) "I felt good! Real good. It felt as if

my heart dropped."

Jennifer: "I was scared when we were coming from upstairs, i was like emh that's it."

Did you have any idea you were going to win?

Edwin: "Oh I don't know." "Our close friends were the ones telling us oh you got this."

Jennifer:"People said that you had it but You couldn't get cocky you know because we all came from different types of groups."

What activity did you like from prom(drawings, tattoos, karaoke,pictures,dancing)?

Edwin:"The dance floor" "I liked the drawings" "I was going to get freaky on the dance floor but I wasn't my kind of music."

Jennifer:"The dance floor" "The dancing, also the karaoke but I didn't have time." "Pictures, I had fun there."

In one word how would you describe Prom?

Edwin: "It was exciting."

Jennifer: "Fun."

Words from an IB student

Attention all underclassmen! The following post was written with you in mind.

After months of preparing for the challenging International Baccalaureate exams, IB students are now being filled with relief as their near endless days of studying are coming to an end. Each student who spent their time wisely in and out of class to ready themselves for these tests had their own unique experience, one of those students being Maritsa. As a full diploma candidate, she has had her fair share of grueling work.

Why did you join the IB Programme?
"Going into high school and thinking about college, I knew that I had to take the most rigorous courses available to me. I've always liked challenges and I felt that I needed to challenge myself, and the IB program was a perfect way to do that."

What drove you into doing the full diploma for IB?
"Full diploma is definitely a lot more different than doing just the certificates because I have to take tests in six IB subjects as well as do the Extended Essay, and, I mean, I don't think I would have felt satisfied with myself if I did not go for the full diploma program."

How do you balance the time between all the work, friends, and family?
"I've always really valued school work and have always looked at college as my goal, so I always feel like I have to put my best into everything, and I always make sure that no matter what I do, if I go out with my friends, I make sure I get my work done, but I do find time for friends."

After actually experiencing the two years of the IB Programme, do you think it’s worth it?
"I think it's definitely worth it. Even though MIT doesn't accept credit from most of the test I'm taking, I definitely felt that the IB program was a great way to challenge myself. There was a lot of work, especially for full diploma; so many stressful nights and so many hours of sleep that I missed on, but ultimately the whole challenge, the self-discipline that was required in order to do the full diploma that goes with all these tests, was really rewarding for the fact that I'm pushing myself to do this."

Do you recommend the underclassmen to join it as well? What is some advice that you would give to future IB students?
 "Definitely. If you think you have what it takes, like if you have always been a really strong student and you have a lot of self-discipline, definitely try it. It's hard, especially with Senioritis, but it's very rewarding. If you actually get the full diploma, then high-five to you; that would be awesome. Advice? Start on your stuff early. Yeah, you will slack off - I slack off. It's hard, especially your senior year, so the more you get done your junior year, the better. Make sure you always know your deadlines because a lot of stuff piles up and it gets crazy."

Mr.Lima's First Born Child

Swag Master Mr. Lima has a new addition to his family, Eva Beverly Lima born April 15, 2012 is the first child of Class of 12's favorite teacher. The Falcon Flame had the pleasure to talk to Mr. Lima in his first ever interview as a father.


Being a first time father, how has this whole experience been for you?
       "Her birth was the best day of my life. This whole event has been unbelievable. Her birth was the first time that I could actually believe there was a life in my wife's belly. I knew there was a life there, but I didn't believe it until she was born."


How has being a teacher prepared you for fatherhood?
       "I think she was around three or four days old when I read her her first story. I think its important to read to a child because that way they can grow with an education. It is really important as a parent to understand the importance of play because, play is learning and learning is play"


Has your job prepared you for fatherhood?
       "Definitely, when you treat a kid with respect they will in turn respect you. Kids have a certain sensitivity to fairness so its good to treat them fairly. I have learned that it is important to teach kids independence because when a student finishes a project all on their own it's a sense of pride and accomplishment, it is something that I will teach my daughter because I think it will help her be more self sufficient."


Will your child have as much "swag" as you have come to achieve?
       "She is half of me so she'll immediately have half my swag, and hopefully for Eva my wife's genes will not counteract my swag, and I say my wife's genes, j-e-a-n-s. I'm not too worried though; you can teach swag to a certain extent. Not Swag Master status, but to a certain extent. Besides, kids learn through observation, so she will learn by watching me.

Felicitas Finally Gets Her Prom Date!

Treveion Whitaker: "My invite to prom will be forever a keepsake in my drawer and my memories.
Never will I ever forget our wonderful adventures through success and turmoil.
I think it's the best prom invite ever!"

With prom rapidly approaching, prom dates and couples are rushing to ask their partners to have a wonderful night together on May 11^th. Just this week, Felicitas Nunez finally got around to asking her date, Treveion Whitaker, to prom. “I honestly didn’t know what to do. I know Tre loves the attention so I wanted to do something big,” Felicitas tells herself in an interview. “I had it all planned out: I was going to leave this silly, badly photoshopped card on his desk, but then I remembered he didn’t have a first period.”

            Felicitas ended up just giving the card to Treveion, and she tells us that Treveion did laugh about it a bit. “I wasn’t sure if he was going to like it. I knew he would think that it’s sort of lame and I was a little worried he would obnoxiously say something rude about it. Treveion can be very unpredictable sometimes.”

            We asked Treveion of what he was thinking when he first got this card handed to him. “At first I was like, ‘Oh, my goodness. This idiot put something dumb in here like a drawing of a naked cat with boobies.’” Felicitas would never do such a thing like that! How dare Treveion embarrass her image like this? He then tells us what he felt as soon as he opened the card -

            “When I opened it and saw the horribly photoshopped declaration of a prom invitation, I almost cried.” Treveion Whitaker told us that he felt a little emotional about this because Felicitas and him go “way back like since 1962.” He claims that their past lives must have been Lewis and Clark and that in this life, they are still the close friends they were back then. “I’ve discovered so much with this woman and I feel like we’ve ‘grown up’ together.”

            Felicitas was very glad that Treveion enjoyed her proposal for prom. “I’m so happy that he actually liked it and played along with it. Now I’m actually a little more excited about going to prom.” And with that being said, we can all hope that Felicitas and Treveion have a wonderful prom night together. Then again, with their PB&J-like relationship, we can be assured it will be a night with plenty of laughs.

The Seniors "Fun" Week

Last week the seniors had a busy week full of fun activities the administration had prepared for them. We all came together as a class to enjoy this time before we graduate and take our next step in our life. Activities like Chubby Bunny, a college fair, sport activities, college shirt day and the mentoring of freshman. 

An interview with Juan Guerrero tells us more on his experience:

Do you think your words to your freshman seem to have impacted her in any way?

"I believe that my words did impact my freshman because they had an understanding for what I said and they seemed to take my words into consideration."

What was the part that you didn't like from that week?

"I thought it was kind of time wasting because we were not productive in anyway and we were pretty much trapped in a gym."

What was you favorite part of that week?

"I guess when we played Chubby Bunny was pretty funny,
But I guess when were allowed to play our sports it was fun as well."

How did the mentoring go and how do you feel?

"I feel the mentoring went well for the time I had to talk to my freshman. Because my words did seem to have an impact on their views on high school."

Prom Proposal Ideas Anyone?

                                                                                                                                                             Hello gentlemen, are you dateless for prom? Do you have somebody in mind but don't know exactly how to ask them? Is the stress of coming up with  a spontaneous way driving you insane? Well we here at the Falcon Flame are ready to help you boys. Here are just a few ways that you can ask your future date to prom.

1) Split the phrase 'Will you go to prom with me' (or any variation of that phrase) into 7 pieces. Write the parts on7 different pieces of paper or any thing you would like to write it on. Then give a piece to each of her 6 teachers and ask them if they can give it to her during class. Make sure to tell them not to tell her who its from. Then at the end of the day meet her outside her class with the final piece of the phrase. 

2) Now for this one you'll need a small plastic pig, 4-5 balloons full of helium, and a box. Next tie the balloons to the pig (make sure they make the pig float otherwise this won't work). Then put the balloons and pig into  the box and close it. Finally write on the box 'the only way you'de go to prom with me is if pigs fly' (or some variation of that phrase), then simply open the box and let the pig fly out.

3) Get a white board and write a paragraph, any paragraph so long as is has the words 'will you go to prom with me' split up through the paragraph. Write the paragraph with regular white board markers but write those specific words with permanent markers. Then ask her if she could erase it for you and you'll see her smile at the phrase 'will you go to prom with me'.

4) if you're still not sure what to do get some flowers and ask her the old fashioned way (:

PROM Venue!

Prom news! Prom is right around the corner and most of you attending might be having great expectations on our venue. It is one of the most beautiful places on the grounds of the historic Santa Anita Racetrack the Chandelier Room. A place where memories will be cherished. It will be on May 11, 2012 @ Santa Anita Racetrack from 7:00 pm- 12:00 am. Here's a sneak peak of your 2012 prom venue.
